Yosemite (Sunday, Sept 26)
Again, I had to get up at 6:30 to line up for a campsite. The ranger station does not open until 8:00, but the spaces are given out on a first come-first serve. Again I got a spot at 8:00, and this time it was for 2 nights (thank-goodness).
Ade was very ambitious this day and biked all around the central part of the valley, while I took the scooter and explored the outer areas. I kind of ran out of energy this day, and decided to take an afternoon siesta, while Ade did a little more exploring.
Feeling, a little guilty after sleeping the afternoon away, I did try a little hike. Again, I was not prepared and the signs of 4 to 30 miles scared me off again. However, that evening I decided to get my act together, and I studied the maps. I found a route that was actually 4 separate hikes ranging from 5 to 10 km each. By the time I had planned the hike, it ended up being a complete loop around the valley that climbed 3,000 ft, then dropped 1,000 ft, then up another 2,000 ft, and finally down 4,000 ft, and covered a distance of 21 km and a total vertical (up and then down) of 10,000 ft. At first this seemed a little daunting, but when the shortest hike was 5 km one way, and then another 5 km back, I figured that I might was well go the whole way around, and cover the four most travelled hikes in the park.
